X-ray inspection of cast aluminum wheels

As with most other casting techniques, flaws can arise during wheel production, too. The wheel’s stability is not allowed to be endangered  as a result, and any optical defects on the surface are not supposed to be visible, either. The solutions from YXLON find these flaws reliably.

  • Recognition of blowholes and clusters
  • Detection of foreign bodies
  • Prevention of surface-breaking flaws on the finished wheel
  • Check microporosities toward prevention of microsections
  • Tire visualization on the wheel

YXLON offers various systems for analyzing cast wheels. Optimally customized solutions are available, depending on the application and flaw pattern involved.

The Y.MU231 X-ray system is best suited for series wheel inspection. The wheels can be fed in unfinished and in mixed-mode operation. The system identifies the wheel model automatically and inspects according to customer specification. Blowholes and foreign bodies are sorted out as individual flaws or as a cluster. The system can be used fully automatically together with Y.AI software.

The Y.MU2000-D Wheel X-ray system is used when single wheels are supposed to be inspected apart from the conveyor route. A special roller support to rotate the wheel is optionally available for the universal cabinet.

Y.MU2000-D Tire-On-Wheel can be used for X-raying the complete wheel. Here the location of the tire bead on the wheel is visualized in a tangential scan.

Computed tomography is the best method when it all depends on the details, and especially on 3D reconstruction. Y.CT systems customized specifically for the customer are delivered including a special wheel mount.

We offer you a wide range of X-ray techniques at our application centers. We design solutions that replace X-ray films, provide radioscopy and fully automatic defect recognition in X-ray images, as well as computed tomography services for scanning inspection items ranging from micro-CT to CT using a linear accelerator.
