If a tomogram of one layer of the item to be inspected has been created
by the CT unit, now additional layers can be scanned. This procedure
is applied in the case of 2D CT. In the case of 3D CT, entire volumes
are recorded using one single scan. Which procedure is utilized depends
on the inspection task and the object to be inspected.
If the individual parallel images of the layers are joined together
later on, the result is a three-dimensional depiction of the item
to be inspected.
