X-ray based tire inspection is the standard inspection method during tire production.
The construction design of a tire is so complex that fluctuations within the production process can influence the quality of the manufactured tire dramatically. That is why X-ray tire inspection systems have been deployed successfully for decades in spot-check sample tire inspection and in 100% tire inspection during production.
Typical X-ray inspection tasks in the tire industry include the (mis)alignment of individual belt layers, steel cord positions, cord spacings within the casing, detecting air pockets or pockets containing foreign substances, or checking whether symmetry is being maintained within tire construction.
The demands placed on the image quality of the tire inspection itself are high, which is why the qualifications of X-ray systems for tire inspection are subject to standardized testing procedures such as ASTM F 1035. All YXLON tire inspection systems readily fulfill the customary norms, regardless of whether passenger-vehicle, truck or OTR tires are to be inspected.
